Stamp Act

- Forced colonists to buy paper, needing to buy a stamp to show they payed the tax(es) on anything printed
- Created by Ben Franklin
- Would be seized and tried without a jury if one did not have a stamp
- Tax was 3 pence
- Passed by the British Parliament
- needed for newspapers, magazines, legal papers, and many more
Tea Act
- Passed on May 10th, 1773
- Passed by British Parliament
- Put taxes on Tea
- One of the causes to the Boston Tea Party
- Wasn't intended to raise revenue in the American Colonies
Sugar Act
- Passed on April 5th, 1764
- Enforced people in America to pay a 3 cent tax on sugar
- Purpose wasn't to regulate, but to take everyone's money
- Also increased taxes on Coffee, wine, and indigo
- The action was taken without the Colonists' permission
- This angered the Colonists
- This was passed along with the Molasses act
Repeal of Stamp Act
- Repealed by Parliament on March 18th, 1766
- under the Marquis of Rockingham
